Level 1 – TSM Implementation and Administration Course Description

Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) is an enterprise-wide storage management application for the network. It provides automated storage management services to multi-vendor workstations, personal computers, and local area network (LAN) file servers. It is the foundation of the STORServer Backup Appliance.

This course is designed to teach the student how to install and customize Tivoli Storage Manager for their client/server environment. The course is taught on the NT server and client platforms, but applies to all other client and server environments. The student will learn how to implement automatic, policy-driven Backup/Restore and Archive/Retrieve functions at the server and client.

This lab intensive course provides you with the experience and skills necessary to install, customize and maintain Tivoli Storage Manager.

Using hands-on labs, and the most current information available, the course will focus on:

• Installation and customization of the TSM Server
• Installation and customization of TSM Administrative and Backup Archive Clients
• Familiarization with the TSM Administrative WebShell Interface and command line interface
• Experience with the following TSM concepts and components:
  • Creating and managing storage pools
  • Managing the TSM Server Database
  • Establishing domains, policy sets, management classes and copy groups
  • Creating automatic schedules for Backup and Archive
  • Configuration of tape drives and libraries
  • Offsite/onsite tape management
  • Familiarization with TSM Backup Archive GUI and command line functions
  • Tivoli Storage Manager Daily Administrative Functions and schedules
• STORServer users will learn how STORServer Manager provides added operations and tape management functionality to TSM

Level 2 – Advanced Topics Course Description

This course prepares students to design and implement complex solutions for TSM. It is recommended for students who have experience implementing and managing TSM solutions, are preparing for the TSM Certification Exam and are interested in learning about the advanced features of the TSM software. Students will study and review the information covered by the exam and learn about TSM advanced concepts such as Server-to-Server Communications, SQL Select interface for TSM, TSM Script and Macro writing, the Disaster Recovery Manager, recovering the Tivoli Storage Manager server database, and troubleshooting server and client performance issues.

TSM Level 2 training from STORServer is the only course available from any provider that also includes topics and labs on implementing the Tivoli Data Protection products (for MS Exchange, MS SQL and Oracle).
This lab intensive course provides the student with experience in collecting the correct information to design complex solutions, and implement advanced topics. Using hands-on labs, and the most current information available, the workshop will focus on:

• TSM topics forum and designing complex solutions.
• Configuring tapes, drives and libraries.
• Automating repetitive tasks with Macros and Scripts.
• Configuring the Disaster Recovery Manager.
• Using Server-to-Server Virtual Volumes for electronic vaulting.
• Implementing Enterprise Administration to manage multiple servers.
• Recovering the Tivoli Storage Manager database and storage pools.
• Recovering Tivoli Storage Manager clients.
• Troubleshooting client and server performance problems
• Implementing Tivoli Data Protection products for MS Exchange, MS SQL and Oracle.
