Backup Appliance Technology is Different

Conventional Backup Software:

STORServer Backup Appliance Technology:

Copies the same files over and over. Inefficient use of media resources, and a burden to the network. Captures only files that change, and keeps expired data based on data retention, according to how many versions you want.
Only creates end-of-day & end-of-week state copies. These are not online backup. Make backup copies at any time, scheduled or on-demand.
“Backup” is, by definition, not available once data is removed from the library. The backups are checked out as DR Tapes. A true Full Backup recoverable by the last number of days (45 days) is always On-Line.
Tape management is a manually tracked activity. Often a nightmare. Tape management is managed automatically with a relational database.
Backups go to tape first and are slow – resulting in missed backup windows. Backups go first to a disk cache, then migrate to a portable media pool -- disk, tape, or optical.
Backups are sequential and are dependent upon all servers completing successfully. Backups are multi-threaded and independent of each other, ensuring effective backup operations.
